Do you have a chameleon tile roof that is changing color? Do you see waves of grey? If so, you may have a roof tile from the manufacturer Monier. Let’s look at the product, the affects and the sharks.
There may be others, but the tile I am most familiar with in the Central Florida area is a barrel tile that is usually a reddish clay color. Often the “off color” is noticeable from the ground but very pronounced from the roof. First of all, if you plan on walking on your roof, please be careful for the obvious reasons but also be careful not to break any tiles. These will require repair or replacement and just add salt to the wound. Now this discoloration comes from a colored slurry coating deterioration which exposes the grey concrete product below. If you’re able to see the under side of the tile or if you have any extra tiles, you may find the words “MONIER”, “LIFETILE” or similar permanently formed in the concrete as a positive form of ID.
